Entry requirements
These courses give a good technical training and education providing a vocational alternative to A Levels and the opportunity for successful students to progress to Higher Education. Students are normally aged 16 or over and the following requirements are needed:
Advanced Level 3 Suite:
- Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma - (60 credits in 1 year)
An English Language GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of three others at C (4) or higher, including Maths or Science.
- Level 3 BTEC 90 Credit Diploma - (90 credits in 1 year)
An English GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of four others at C (4) or higher, including Maths and Science.
- Level 3 BTEC Diploma (120 credits)
An English Language GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of three others at C (4) or higher, including Maths or Science.
- Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma - (180 credits in 2 years) (year 1 is a 90 credit stand alone Diploma)
An English GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of four others at C (4) or higher, including Maths and Science.
In addition Learning Areas may apply specific agreed aptitude assessments that assist selection.
Applicants for all courses in Uniformed Protective Services are expected to show a strong commitment to the industry and a strong personal statement
Learning and assessment
This study programme is pracitcal and will involve external visits, workshops and outdoor activities as well as underpinnign classroom theory sessions.
Assessments will include assignments, presentations and reports. There are no formal examinations on the Level 3 BTEC Diploma.
Progression
As a course equivalent to A Level the Level 3 BTEC Diploma is an ideal spring board for progression to a Foundation Degree or Full Degree depending on UCAS points gained.

Employment opportunities in Uniformed Protective Services and its related industries are currently very good. The Subsidiary, Diploma and Extended Diploma Uniformed Protective Services provides the qualification and experience for entry into the following services at an operational level with future prospects for management:
- Fire Service
- Royal Air Forces
- Navy
- Coastguards
- Prison Service
- Army
- Customs and Excise
- Police

Learners will be required to wear college uniform
Costs that are mandatory for the course:
College T-shirt, tracksuit bottoms and tracksuit top or hooded top– approx. £85
Costs that are optional for the course:
Public Services textbook approx. £20
Walking shoes approx. £30-100+ (depending on quality and brand)
Outdoor Clothing approx. £50-£150+ (depending on quality and brand)
