About the course

Introduction:

This course provides an introduction to plant identification. You will be shown different identification methods, including stems, leaves, flowers and form, and become aware of seasonal differences. The plant naming system will be explained.

A keen interest in horticulture.

An introduction to plant identification, including the following:

• The binomial system

• Plant features to support identification

• Using keys

• The identification of plants growing at Walton Hall and Gardens

How long will I be learning?

Although this course only lasts for one day, this is only the start and you’ll carry on learning as you put your new skills into practice.

What equipment will I need?

All equipment is provided, but you will need to wear sensible footwear and outdoor clothing.

How will I know if I am making progress?

Demonstration of new skills.

What course work will I be expected to complete?

Practical skills during the course.

An awareness of plant identification features and how to apply and test your new knowledge.
