Functional Skills is based on the practical application of maths and English through problem solving questioning related to life situations. Students can be entered at entry level 2, 3 or level one depending on their achievement levels. Students who are 14 at the start of this programme; those who are not expected to achieve a grade 9-4 in GCSE in the limited delivery time or those lacking confidence will be considered for this qualification. Students who successfully achieve this programme will gain accredited qualifications. Students will be made an offer based on initial assessment at interview. They will then undertake a more in depth assessment and period of monitoring in the first 6 weeks to ensure they have been put onto the correct English and maths qualification and level. Any changes to the course applied for either at interview or during the first 6 weeks will first be discussed with parents and students.

Parents/Schools, please note when completing the application form you must use child’s name and DOB but the parent/school email and telephone number. All official documents, interview and enrolment information will be emailed on the parent/school email provided and this could be anytime from the time of application through to September. If the email changes it is important you let us know. Failure to do so could lead to the application being withdrawn from the process.
