As part of University Centre Myerscough’s commitment to the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship (BRC) in 2018, the team is contesting the UK’s round of the World Rally Championship, Dayinsure Wales Rally GB, which gets underway tomorrow (Thursday).

The championship’s double-header decider takes place over four days of competition, based in the forests of mid and north Wales.  Four out of the five BRC titles are still to be decided and Rally GB offers two-points scoring opportunities for this season’s dreams to be realised.

The crew, Bart Lang and co-driver Sinclair Young, are currently third in the Cadet BRC in the Ford Fiesta R2 hired from Myerscough, and they could win the title with two good results. The car will be maintained by students studying both a Foundation Degree and BSc study programme in Motorsports.

The Myerscough College Rally Team will also run a Ford Escort MK2 on the event. The car is owned and driven by Ian Newton & Ian Jones, and successfully completed the rally’s National section in 2017 with Myerscough College further education students acting as service crew. The team is hoping to improve on their finishing position; 28th from 76 starters, with 81 on this year’s Wales Rally GB National entry list.

As if that wasn’t enough, four Myerscough motorsport degree students will be working with M-Sport, in their defence of the BRC title, while a further seven students will be working with the scrutineering team on the four day event.

Good luck to both crews and to the eight students who will run the cars on this gruelling forest rally.
