What to expect on your Applicant Day, Interview or Taster Session

What to expect and what to bring to Applicant Day

The following information has been sent to applicants for the February 2025 applicant days. 

Basketball, Rugby and Female Footballers will all be have a bespoke event, details will have been sent to applicant emails or will be available on The MAC. 

Please note that some practical sessions will include a one to one interview with a tutor. This is an informal interview designed to ensure the course is right for you, it can also be a chance to ask any questions not covered in the theory sessions.

If you don't have the equipment that you need, please do not let this stop you from attending, please email fe@myerscough.ac.uk and we will pass any concerns you may have to the Curriculum Area Manager. 

Agriculture &  Land and Wildlife 

Our curriculum team have requested that you come to the event prepared to work outdoors and wear appropriate weatherproof clothing as well as sturdy boots (preferably steel-toe cap boots).  You should also bring with you a notepad and pen. 

 

Agriculture - The day will include a session on beef farming, a detailed tour of our dairy, a theory session and  tractor driving. 

 

Land and Wildlife - The day will include a practical and theory sessions covering, practical conservation, tree and plant identification along with a pond and plant survey. 

Animal Studies 

Our curriculum team have requested that you come to the event prepared to work outdoors and wear appropriate weatherproof clothing as well as sturdy boots.  Please remove all piercings before arrival and also bring with you a notepad and pen. 

 

The day will be split between theory and practical sessions to cover husbandry in a variety of areas as well as animal health. 

 

Blacksmithing

 

Our team have requested that you wear - jeans, long sleeve top, steel toe boots/ sturdy boots/ hiking boots. Please remove all piercings before arrival and also bring with you a notepad and pen. 

The day will include a mixture of classroom and practical activities to cover; an Introduction to L2 Blacksmithing, risk assessments/PPE, an introduction to forge and fire management and making a “square point and eye”. 

Equine Studies 

Our curriculum team have requested that you bring yard clothes (riding hat/boots) to the event.  Please remove all piercings before arrival. You should also bring with you a notepad and pen. 

 

The day will include a mixture of classroom and practical activities including riding/simulation, yard activities and a detailed area tour. 

 

Greenspace

Arboriculture/Horticulture/Sportsturf/Landscape - Our curriculum team have requested that you come to the event prepared to work outdoors and wear appropriate weatherproof clothing and steel-toe cap boots.  You should also bring with you a notepad and pen. 

Arboriculture - The day will include a mixture of classroom and practical activities including climbing/ identifications and report summaries. 

Horticulture/Sportsturf/Landscape - The day will include practical and theory sessions covering; propagation, bricklaying and marking out turf. Technical and T Level applicants will also have an additional session in the laboratories. 

 

Motorsport & Agricultural Engineering 

Our curriculum team have requested that you come to the event with overalls or a dust coat as well as steel-toe cap boots.  You should also bring with you a notepad and pen. 

We have an exiting day planned with a mix of practical and theory based sessions in the workshops. 

 

Sport Courses

The Sport Days will include a mixture of practical and theory based sessions, tailored to your specific course and designed to showcase our equipment and facilities. 

Golf – Our Golf Tutors have requested that you come to the event dressed in golf attire and with your golf clubs.  You may also wish to bring along a change of clothing in case of inclement weather.  Please also bring a notepad and pen. 

All Other Sports – Our curriculum team have requested that you come to the event dressed in clothing and footwear appropriate for your sport.  Please also bring a notepad and pen. 

Uniformed Public Services – Our curriculum team have requested that you come to the event dressed in clothing and footwear appropriate for your course.  Please also bring a notepad and pen.
