Qualification Equivalency Guide

The below information is here as a guide to help you to understand the requirements to access your course if you are not taking standard GCSE qualifications.

UK Comparisons

The levels used in England all follow the Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF)

You can find examples of UK comparisons and example courses on the EAL Website.

Common Comparisons

Key Skills or Functional Skills level 1 can be used in place of a GCSE requirement of 3 (D)

Key Skills or Functional Skills Level 2 can be used in place of a GCSE requirement of 4 (C)

Adult Literacy and Numeracy at any level cannot be accepted as equivalents to Maths or English GCSEs.

International Qualifications

We can provide information on equivalencies, but you may be required to order a statement of comparability from ENIC before starting your course. We will advise you directly if this is the case.
