What are the entry requirements?

No prerequisites necessary! Our training program is open to all, with content meticulously aligned with the Level 5 Apprenticeship National Standards. However, to fully harness the benefits, it's ideal to be operating at a level where you can readily engage with the material.

Are you a Head Greenkeeper, Golf Course Manager, or Head Groundsman? Congratulations! You're in the perfect position to maximize the advantages of this course. But don't fret if your job title doesn't match exactly – this course is designed to accommodate various roles and skill levels.

What will the course involve?

Change Management: How to Prepare and Support your Team

Every team has its own culture which affects an organisation’s ability to compete and respond successfully to change. The organisation’s success or failure is dependent on that culture. The internal factors decide how your team moves forward and responds to its external environment.

Learning outcome

1. The principles of recruitment, appraisal, conflict, teamwork, staff co-ordination, supply chain management, performance management and the development of staff.

2. The different forms of communication (written, verbal, electronic) and evaluate the best solution for different circumstances.

3. The importance of personal and professional development of themselves and their team.

4. Ensure a strong work ethic including pride in work, attention to detail, integrity and good time management.

5. A clear and effective communicator who can use a variety of communication methods to give/receive information accurately and in a timely and positive manner.

6. Be able to spot the tell-tale signs of barriers to change.

7. Help others to understand the need for change & build trust in the team.

Principals of Successful Innovation; Turning Ideas into Action

A manager’s goal is to create a healthy environment which can produce conducive innovation. Innovation is a process that involves multiple activities to uncover new ways to do things. It’s the process of taking useful ideas and converting them into useful products, services, processes, or methods of operation.

Learning outcome

1. The importance of customer service to the business.

2. How to create a positive atmosphere.

3. The importance of good working relationships, the needs of others and equality and diversity of others in the workplace.

4. The different forms of communication (written, verbal, electronic) and evaluate the best solution for different circumstances.

5. Have a flexible, positive attitude to work.

6. Problem solving and effective decision making.

7. How to apply & deliver models to drive successful innovation.

8. How to measure & demonstrate the benefits.

9. Build trust & set clear goals whilst maintaining momentum.

This course will be taken into consideration by Myerscough College when applying for the Level 5 Apprenticeship in Golf Course Management as it is mapped against the apprenticeship standards.

Tea/ Coffee and lunch will be provided.

What other training programmes and progression opportunities are there?

This course is part of a suite of four Level Five short courses. These will be delivered at various sites across the country. If there are no dates and venues showing on the factsheet please check back at a later date as we are always adding new dates and venues. We are also offering a series of courses at Level Three.

Sportsturf studies

There are fantastic opportunities both in the UK and overseas for people who are trained and qualified in sportsturf. Careers exist at all levels, from assistant groundspersons and greenkeepers to managers of international sports facilities such as Premier League Football Clubs and the major elite Golf Courses. Our courses will equip you with the skills that are necessary to build, maintain and manage quality turf surfaces to a high standard.

Students learn the science behind how grasses grow, as well as soils, drainage and a wide range of maintenance practices. You will gain an understanding of the demands of sport and what players need or expect from turf surfaces. You will be taught how to provide these conditions all year round and in all weather conditions.
