Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry
Learners will develop an understanding of careers in the sport and active leisure industry. They will gain the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed for employment in the industry.

Provides an understanding of fitness testing and the importance of health screening and health monitoring tests.
Fitness Training - Optional
Looks at planning fitness training sessions and designing fitness training programmes for rugby.
Practical Sports Application - Optional
Explores the skills, techniques, tactics and rules of team sports through practical participation.
Entry requirements & additional information
Entry requirements
These courses give a good technical training and education providing a vocational alternative to A Levels and the opportunity for successful students to progress to Higher Education. Students are normally aged 16 or over and the following requirements are needed:
BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate (360) - (1 year)
An English Language GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of three others at C (4) or higher, including Maths or Science.
BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma (540) – (1 year)
An English Language GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of four others at C (4) or higher, including Maths and Science.
BTEC Level 3 Diploma (720) – (2 year)
An English GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of three others at C (4) or higher, including Maths or Science.
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (1080) - (2 year)
An English GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of four others at C (4) or higher, including Maths and Science.
In addition Learning Areas may apply specific agreed aptitude assessments that assist selection.
Applicants for all courses in Rugby Studies are expected to show a strong commitment to the industry and a strong personal statement.
Learning and assessment
All work is assessed via assignments, presentations, practicals and reports. There are no formal examinations at the end of the course. Research Project in Sport module is externally assessed by Pearson.
Progression
As a course equivalent to A Level the Level 3 BTEC Diploma is an ideal spring board for progression to a Foundation Degree or Full Degree depending on UCAS points gained. Successful students may progress to higher education courses such as:
- FdSc Rugby Coaching and Performance
- FdSc Strength and Conditioning
- FdSc Sports Coaching
- A range of BA and BSc undergraduate degrees
These Foundation courses require a minimum of 48 plus UCAS points dependant on entry criteria for each individual university establishment.
Careers
Employment opportunities in Rugby and its related industries are currently very good. The Subsidiary, Diploma and Extended Diploma Rugby Studies provide the qualification and experience for entry into the industry at an operational level with future prospects for management.

Costs that are mandatory for the course:
Equipment and / or Clothing: Rugby kit, boots and trainers. Approx £200
Costs that are optional to the course include:
Study Tour: overseas trips – Approx £350
Academy Fee: £150 - Covers travel and medical supplies costs
