About the course

Myerscough College has teamed up with Lancashire County Cricket Club and Lancashire Cricket Foundation to offer a fantastic opportunity to students wishing to pursue a career within the cricket and sports industry. The Myerscough College Cricket combines academic sporting qualifications with practical skills development, coaching and competitive fixtures.

The College offers opportunity to study at level 3 (A level equivalent) for students who wish to develop a comprehensive understanding of Cricket - encompassing practical techniques, academic knowledge and technical skills. It is a popular option for both school leavers and successful Level 2 Diploma students. The course incorporates a mix of practicals, classroom lectures, industry visits and case study exercises

Health, Wellbeing & Sport

Learners will explore the importance of physical activity and wellbeing for different types of participants and suggest ways to improve their physical and mental health status

Developing Coaching Skills

Learners will develop their coaching knowledge and skills to help improve others’ performance skills, techniques and tactics.

Careers in Sport & Active Leisure

Learners will develop an understanding of careers in the sport and active leisure industry. They will gain the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed for employment in the industry.

Entry Requirements:

These courses give a good technical training and education providing a vocational alternative to A Levels and the opportunity for successful students to progress to Higher Education. Students are normally aged 16 or over and the following requirements are needed:

Advanced Level 3 Suite:

BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate (360) - (1 year)

An English Language GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of three others at C (4) or higher, including Maths or Science.

BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma (540) – (1 year)

An English GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of four others at C (4) or higher, including Maths and Science.

BTEC Level 3 Diploma (720) – (2 year)

An English GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of three others at C (4) or higher, including Maths or Science.

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (1080) - (2 year)

An English Language GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of four others at C (4) or higher, including Maths and Science.

In addition Learning Areas may apply specific agreed aptitude assessments that assist selection.

Applicants for all courses in Cricket Studies are expected to show a strong commitment to the industry and a strong personal statement.

By studying cricket at Myerscough College you are giving yourself an excellent opportunity to secure a dream job in the sport. Our dedicated teaching staff provide cricketers of all abilities, including beginners, with an excellent cricketing education and the chance to fulfill their playing ambitions or move into the cricket/sports industry. In partnership with Lancashire County Cricket Club, our courses are available at our Preston, or Emirates Old Trafford Centres.
