About the course

Introduction:

This course is designed for existing farm workers who want additional relevant training, employees requiring proof of staff training/CPD and anyone involved in the day-to-day care of dairy cattle. This course will keep you up to date with relevant topics, changing advice and best practice.

What are the entry requirements?

Experience of milking and to be familiar with dairy parlour routine.

How long is the course?

10am-3pm

What will the course involve?

This course is a vet-led course which involves both theory and practical elements. There will be a classroom-based session followed by a practical afternoon.

How long will I be learning?

The session is a single day course which is timed to allow you to fit into a working day around milking.

What equipment will I need?

Bring fully cleaned and disinfected waterproofs and wellies for the practical.

What can I expect to learn from this course?

You will learn which bugs can cause mastitis and why it is important to know which ones are on your farm, how the milking process can influence mastitis rates, the anatomy of a normal udder and natural process of milk let-down, how to take a sterile milk sample, the use of diagnostic tools for treatment decisions.
