The planting of cherry trees has launched Myerscough’s annual celebration of the arboriculture sector.
VIP guests including Amanda Parker JP, the current Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, Jake Thompson, Partnership & Expertise Manager and Tristan Haynes, Field Manager of the Forestry Commission, were invited to join Myerscough staff and students at Lodge Farm, to begin a project involving a new line of 18 trees that will be established to restore a hedgerow next to a historic right of way.
This tree planting initiative was started on Myerscough’s first ever Arbor Day in 2019, and then became part of the Queen’s Green Canopy Initiative, and was continued by planting trees in memory of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Over the years, several of our Arbor Day trees have been planted by local dignitaries, including Sir Bill Beaumont, John McGuinness MBE, the former Sheriff of Lancashire (Edwin Booth CBE) and the current Sherriff of Lancashire (Martin Ainscough), Shaun Turner, Allan Foster & Barry Johnson.
We hope this new line of 18 trees will further contribute to improving the local environment for many decades, if not centuries.

In the last six years we have planted many new hedge lines, created seven new woodlands, as well as planting trees in the local community, including at 16 primary and secondary schools in Lancashire and Blackpool.
Myerscough’s sixth Arbor Day takes place on Thursday February 13, and is an event to celebrate all things trees and arboriculture, becoming an annual fixture in the college calendar.
The day, held at Myerscough’s main Preston campus, will include speeches and guest lectures to students by a range of arboriculture professionals, as well as a dedicated tree planting ceremony involving VIPs, invited guests and college staff, and opportunities to network with various industry colleagues who will be joining us as part of our careers day.
