Michael Jones graduated from Myerscough after completing a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Cricket Studies with a Distinction, and has since forged a successful playing career in the first class game, as a top order batsman.

After completing his studies, he spent seven years at Durham, where he played every match in 2022 and finished as the county’s leading County Championship scorer with 878 runs at an average above 50. He has a career highest first class score of 206.

In 2025 Michael, who is from Ormskirk, made the move back to Lancashire.

He is a full international with Scotland – his mother’s birthplace - and has played at two previous T20 World Cups – with notable innings including scoring 86 against Ireland in 2022 and an unbeaten 45 against England in the opening group match in 2024.

For this tournament, Michael is looking to add to his 27 international appearances to date for Cricket Scotland, in a group that also includes England, Italy, Nepal, and their opening group game against West Indies on Saturday (February 7).

During the Coronavirus lockdown, we caught up with Michael as he looked back on his time as a Myerscough College student. You can watch it back here.

We wish Michael all the very best for the tournament and his future career.
