It is with great sadness that we must inform you that Ron Matthews, Myerscough’s Clerk to the Governors, has passed away.

We extend our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers to Ron’s family, friends, colleagues and loved ones, at this profoundly difficult time.
Those who knew Ron will remember him as a truly kind and generous man, who gave so much of his time and energy to the College.
He was a dedicated public servant, committed to excellence in governance, and his contribution and commitment were unwavering. Ron’s impact on our college community was significant.
Ron held the role of our Clerk to the Corporation, our governing body, since January 2010, a position he undertook after a previous distinguished career as a senior manager in local government.
Ron studied at Kirkham Grammar School and the University of Central Lancashire, before a career spanning four decades that took him to roles with Fylde Borough Council, Blackburn with Darwen Council, Lancaster City Council and then to South Ribble Borough Council, where he held the post of Head of Administration for more than 15 years, before leaving the authority in 2008.
During his career, Ron was an active member of the North-West Clerk’s Network, a former Chair of the Wyre District Council Remuneration Committee and former Clerk and Company Secretary to the Cidari Multi Academy Trust.
Ron was also a Governor at his local primary school, as well as being recruited by various business organisations as a judge for their awards processes, a role he thoroughly enjoyed for a number of years.
With a keen interest in sport generally, Ron was a Trustee of his local cricket club and even enjoyed turning out once a year for the annual Myerscough staff versus students cricket match. He was also a Blackpool Football Club season ticket holder for many years.
Ron will be remembered by us all fondly, as an absolute gentlemen, someone passionate about making a difference in his field, and someone who was equally liked and highly respected by everyone who met him.
We will announce funeral details, and our plans of how we will honour and celebrate his life and his work, in due course.
Rest in peace, Ron.
