This week, a special media day was held on the hallowed turf of Old Trafford, to both launch the upcoming playing season and to showcase the offer to prospective students and the cricketing communities across Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester.
Staff and students were joined by college management and the Executive Director of the Lancashire Cricket Foundation, Jennifer Barden, who has been an avid supporter of our new college strategy and academic offer at Old Trafford.
Andy Massey, Myerscough Old Trafford Centre Manager and cricket tutor, said: ‘’We are extremely excited to be working with Jen and the Foundation in the coming months and years as we look to create opportunities for learners to progress from their level three studies into industry.
‘’We are currently in the process devising a Level 4 Sports Coach Apprenticeship which aligns closely with the strategic objectives of both Myerscough College and the Lancashire Cricket Foundation, particularly in fostering excellence in sports coaching and community engagement.''
‘’The Lancashire Cricket Foundation is dedicated to growing the game of cricket and engaging communities across the region. The Foundation engage with over 100,000 participants in various cricket programs, reflecting its commitment to increasing participation and supporting clubs with financial assistance and guidance.
‘’With this in mind the Level 4 Sports Coach Apprenticeship will focus on community sport coaching, designing programmes that engage and motivate participants, and promoting holistic well-being aligning with the Foundation’s objectives of community engagement and participation growth.
‘’Myerscough College’s partnership with Lancashire County Cricket Club and the Lancashire Cricket Foundation offers students unique opportunities to combine academic study with high-performance cricket programmes and in doing this we are able to make the game in our communities more sustainable and accessible.’’
Our thanks go to Icon Sports UK, who support the students with the provision of clothing and equipment, and to current students Owen Whittaker and Charlotte Walker, who led the day as part of digital marketing and media enrichment they’re undertaking as part of their studies.
