As part of this week, that shines the spotlight on work-based learning, Myerscough can announce the launch of a new forestry apprenticeship, that will be available from later in the summer.

From June, an exciting new Level 3 Forest Craftsperson programme, designed to nurture the next generation of skilled professionals in the forestry and woodland management sector, will be available.

The apprenticeship, which is set to provide a comprehensive and hands-on learning experience, will equip apprentices with a diverse range of skills required to thrive in this vital industry.

Combining practical training with academic study, the programme aims to build expertise in carrying out the practical operations required to create, maintain and harvest forests and woodlands.

The apprenticeship delivery plan has been co- created with leading forestry employers including A.W. Jenkinson, the National Trust, Forestry Commission, CONFOR, University of Cumbria and the Institute of Chartered Foresters. These key employers have supported the development and design of the apprenticeship delivery model, to ensure it meets the needs and expectations of the Forestry sector.

Sara Valentin from AW Jenkinson, said: ‘’We’re delighted to support the launch of Myerscough College's Forest Craftsperson apprenticeship and we have been very pleased to contribute to its development.

‘’We look forward to seeing the positive impact this programme will have on the industry and the next generation of forestry professionals."

This two-year apprenticeship will allow learners to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required in the role of a forest crafts person, attending college one day per month for theory sessions, and block days for key industry recognised competency qualifications such as chainsaw maintenance, cross-cutting, first aid and more.

Apprentices will be supported using an online portfolio where they will have access to resources to support learning in conjunction with their employers.

Those interested in enrolling in the Level 3 Forest Craftsperson Apprenticeship are encouraged to contact Myerscough College for more details on the application process. The apprenticeship is suitable for anyone looking to start or advance their career in forestry, including school leavers, career changers, and those already working in the sector.

With the launch of this new apprenticeship, Myerscough College continues to build on its reputation as a leader in the trees and timber sectors, offering innovative programmes in arboriculture and forestry.
