It’s been another year of great success for our Myerscough College apprentices, with awards galore for learners and us as a training provider.

As National Apprenticeship Week continues, let’s look at just a selection of our recent regional and national awards:

Myerscough apprentice recognised in BIGGA Student Greenkeeper of the Year

A Myerscough College apprentice was recognised for the quality of his work in the annual Toro Student Greenkeeper of the Year awards.

The event celebrates the best student greenkeepers in the country, with Myerscough boasting three finalists this year in total.

Following regional judging earlier in the year, 10 finalists were selected to contest the prestigious awards at Oulton Hall, where there was further examination of their abilities with a series of tests that gave them the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and passion for the greenkeeping industry.

Runner-up in the main category was Jack Wellings, Senior Greenkeeper at the JCB Golf and Country Club and a student at Myerscough College.

Myerscough rail apprentice recognised at national industry awards

A Myerscough College rail apprentice was recognised at a national level.

Mia Dorta-Hulme was named as a finalist in the prestigious annual RailStaff Awards for 2024, in the Apprentice of the Year category.

Mia is currently undertaking Level 3 Rail Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard programme with Myerscough, while working for Northern Trains, after opting for a career change.

Myerscough sportsturf apprentice a cut above in national awards

An inspirational Myerscough College sportsturf apprentice was recognised with a national award for her contribution to the industry.

The Women in Golf Awards is an annual event celebrating the significant contribution that women, past and present, continue to make to the golf industry.

The awards bring together women at all stages of their careers, from every sector, showing the diverse nature of the roles women hold in the industry.

Anna Nilsson was named as the winner of the Women in Turfcare category at the prestigious event.

Anna has been undertaking a sector leading Level 5 Golf Course Manager Standard apprenticeship, and is currently Deputy Head Greenkeeper of the Brabazon Golf Course at The Belfry.

Myerscough farriery apprentice named best in country at national award ceremony

A Myerscough College farriery apprentice was named the best in the country at a national award ceremony.

Rosie Dobson was named a double winner at the Land-Based & Environment Learner of the Year Awards 2024, scooping the award in the category of Equine and Farriery, before bring named as Overall Apprentice of the Year across all categories.

21-year-old Rosie has been completing a Level 3 Farrier Apprenticeship Standard with Myerscough, a sector leading qualification that takes four years to complete, whilst being employed by an Approved Training Farrier (ATF).

The LBEL Awards are organised by Lantra, a specialist in training and qualification development for the land-based and environment sector, and Landex, a membership organisation representing land-based colleges and universities.

Myerscough recognised among best in sector at Educate North Awards

Myerscough College and University Centre was recognised among the sector’s best in the Educate North Awards.

The Educate North Awards is a prestigious awards event, which celebrates, recognises and shares best practice and excellence in the education sector in the North, and is now in its tenth year.

Myerscough College was a finalist in the UK Apprenticeship Award category - an award for the organisation that can demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to developing apprenticeships and widening participation amongst education institutions in the North.

Entrants must be able to detail their how apprenticeships fit into the wider strategy of their organisation and the steps in place to create a diverse team of apprentices.

Myerscough celebrated in Lancashire Apprenticeship Awards

Myerscough College’s provision has been celebrated at the Lancashire Apprenticeship Awards.

Myerscough was named as a finalist in the Training Provider/Programme of the Year category, with Tom Maddran, a Level 2 apprentice in Land Based Engineering (Construction Plant), shortlisted in the category of Intermediate Apprentice of the Year.

This prestigious event, organised by National World, aims to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of apprentices and employers across the region.

In 2022, Myerscough learner Cameron Barker was named winner in the category Intermediate Apprentice of the Year, for his efforts whole completing his Level 3 apprenticeship in landscaping.
