Rachel Newton and Shameema Seedat have been recognised with the status after successfully completing a year of Professional Development and maintained through membership to the Society for Education and Training.

Rachel, a Teacher and Learning Coach, and a lecturer in GCSE English, and Shameema, a Functional Skills Tutor in English and Maths in Myerscough’s Workbased Learning team, have received their status from The Education and Training Foundation.

Launched in 2017, Advanced Teacher Status (ATS) is the badge of advanced professionalism and mastery in further education and training. Having teachers with ATS demonstrates that Myerscough is committed to raising standards by employing highly skilled teachers who demonstrate mastery in teaching.

The Society for Education and Training has worked closely with colleagues at the Chartered College of Teaching to ensure that those who achieve ATS will automatically be conferred Chartered Teacher status and added to the directory of Chartered Teachers, and is a significant reward for those who bring their high levels of skill and commitment to teaching and training and help to promote high standards across the sector.

The professional development process leading to ATS allows teachers to demonstrate that they are developing themselves, their learners, and their peers. Therefore, as per the 2019 Education Inspection Framework "Leaders ensure that teachers receive focused and highly effective professional development. Teachers' subject, vocational, technical, pedagogical and pedagogical content knowledge builds and develops consistently over time and improves the quality of education provided to learners."
