22-year-old Sarah Harvey, who has been studying a Level 2 Horticulture & Landscape Operative Apprenticeship Standard programme, will battle it out with other finalists in their sector to be crowned national skills champion.

The finalists will compete for gold, silver and bronze in the event, which will take place from 19-22 November, at Oldham College.

The finalists and medallists will be honoured at Manchester’s prestigious Bridgewater Hall on Friday 22 November.

Other Myerscough learners Archie Mathews and Jake Clarke have been named as reserves, and will compete if any of the finalists drop out.

In addition, foundation learning students Declan Coyne and Neil Bennett have made it through to the top eight competitors to compete at the 2024 WorldSkills UK National Final for Foundation Skills: Horticulture.

Fellow Myerscough learner Kieran Walsh is on the reserve list.

The Foundation Skill competitions and the accompanying medal ceremony will take place on Friday 22 November, at Manchester College City Campus.

In total, around 400 talented apprentices and students have advanced to the National Finals of WorldSkills, having participated in regional competitions at their local colleges, training provider centres, workplaces, or online.

Ben Blackledge, Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK said: “Huge congratulations to this year’s National Finalists. We wish them the best of luck in their training as they prepare for the WorldSkills UK Finals.
