Myerscough launches Level 4 apprenticeship in arboriculture

Myerscough College is thrilled to announce the launch of a Arboriculturist Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard.
This exciting programme, available from September, is designed for individuals passionate about trees, their care, and the science behind arboriculture.
Arboriculture is the art and science of establishing, maintaining, and caring for trees. It’s a rewarding field that combines practical skills with scientific knowledge.
Arboriculturists play a crucial role in preserving our green spaces, ensuring tree health, and promoting sustainable practices.
This apprenticeship is ideal for those working in the arboriculture sector, utility, facilities management, and grounds maintenance organizations. Whether you’re employed by local authorities, consultancies, estates, commercial firms, or charities, this programme will enhance your expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- As an apprentice arboriculturist at Level 4, you’ll be responsible for:
- Assessing Tree Health and Risk: Evaluating individual trees, recording information, and managing tree databases.
- Supervising Contractors: Overseeing tree work and ensuring safety and quality.
- Understanding and Applying Tree Law: Navigating legislation related to trees, including preservation orders and conservation zones.
- Providing Tree-Related Advice: Offering guidance on management and legal aspects.
- Managing Woodland: Budget oversight, grant applications, and client engagement.
Learning and Assessment
Course Length: 21-24 months
Location: Workplace delivery supported by online lectures and tutorial support
Delivery is supported via a series of online modules.
Progression: There are a variety of progression opportunities to explore upon completion of this programme. These can be discussed on an individual basis.
Entry Criteria:
- Must be aged 16 or over and officially left school
- Must have Maths and English at Level 2 (GCSE C/Grade 4 or above)
- Will ideally have studied arboriculture or another relevant subject to Level 3 or have significant relevant experience in this subject area
- Must be employed (not self-employed) in the relevant occupational sector, working a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Note: Costs will be determined based on factors such as employer size and apprentice age. The funding cap for this apprenticeship is £14,000. Large employers would fund via the apprenticeships levy account and small employers can receive up to 95% funding via the digital apprenticeship service.
