Myerscough gallops to innovative apprenticeships in the horse racing sector

Innovative apprenticeships in the horse racing sector are now being offered thanks to a partnership between Myerscough College and the Scottish Racing Academy.

The partnership sees the programmes available to learners in the far North of England, with Level 2 and Level 3 Equine Groom Apprenticeships (Racing Pathway) available.

The apprenticeships offer hands-on experience with top trainers and facilities, comprehensive curriculum covering all aspects of racing, expert on the job learning.

Details of the programmes are as follows:

Level 2 Equine Groom (Racing Pathway) Apprenticeship (England)

Duration: 12 months

Cost: Fully funded – must be based in England

Entry Level: Intermediate, 16+

Qualification: Lantra Level 2 Equine Apprenticeship (Racing Route)

All apprentices must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours a week although exceptions are considered on an individual basis.

Level 3 Senior Equine Groom (Racing Pathway) Apprenticeship (England)

This Level 3 qualification requires candidates to be in a role within a yard where they have sole charge for at least a period of time within their working week.

Duration: 18 months

Cost: Fully funded – must be based in England

Entry Level: Advanced, 16+

Qualification: Lantra Level 3 Senior Equine Apprenticeship (Racing Route)

All apprentices must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours a week although exceptions are considered on an individual basis.

Hannah Farrell from the Scottish Racing Academy said: ‘’We are thrilled to announce our latest partnership with both Myerscough College & University Centre & National Stud to bring horseracing apprenticeships to those aged 16+ within a certain radius of Scotland.
‘’There are a limited number of spaces available, and the qualification is open to those aged 16+ who would like to complete ‘on the job’ training as part of normal duties.
‘’The Level 3 qualification requires candidates to be in a role within a yard where they have sole charge for at least a period of time within their working week.
