In another unforgettable experience, Myerscough’s student athletes headed to Moderna, Italy, where they defeated Vis Basket Reggio Calabria, Hot Pepper Heat and SBK Junior Levice, before losing at the final hurdle to American college side, Rens United from New York.

Myerscough College qualified for the three-day SuperFinal after winning seven of eight games played across two weekends earlier in the year, as the students travelled to compete in group stages at events in Borgomanero, Italy, and Alicante, Spain.

Myerscough has competed in the European Youth Basketball League since 2018, and has previously enjoyed great success, including becoming the first British basketball at any level to win a season-long European competition when it was crowned 2019-20 regular season champions.

The EYBL is one of the premier FIBA competitions for juniors and features renowned teams from across the continent, with Myerscough joining the Under-20 ‘Euroleague’ format tournament. The competition is held over three weekends, with teams playing a number of games in each stage.

The U20 league table comprises of teams from different countries across the continent, and this season, the USA.

Sports Academy & Performance Lead at Myerscough College, Neal Hopkins, said: “Playing in Europe has been a big commitment of ours over the years.

“We want our players to have the opportunity to play two seasons of European basketball whilst they are with us, and this is a huge factor in their development.

‘’Our mantra is to go to Europe and earn credibility as a programme - which we have done. It is a huge challenge on a number of levels but one that has really helped in shaping the pathway for those who have been through it.

‘’To experience playing at an unfamiliar level against teams with a huge history is a privilege, the EYBL is an amazing opportunity.”
