Myerscough at forefront of horticulture with BALI networking event
Published: Tuesday 24 March 2026Myerscough College was pleased to welcome the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) for their regional AGM and networking event.
The event at Myerscough's Rural Innovation Centre featured a number of key people within the horticulture industry, including BALI Chief Executive Wayne Grills, who shared insight into the vital work they do to champion the sector, including its role in lobbying Parliament and giving landscaping a strong, unified voice.
Guest speaker Shannen Kennedy from Tobermore led a discussion on their values-led approach and commitment to sustainability in hard landscaping products, while Matthew at Barnes from Walker Ltd spoke about his journey into landscape architecture and the growing need for highly skilled, industry-ready graduates.
Susanna Brandon, Greenspace and Creative Studies Curriculum Area Manager at Myerscough, said: ‘’I had the opportunity to highlight the provision at Myerscough College and our ongoing focus on reducing the skills gap.
‘’A key part of this is working closely with industry partners, raising awareness of career opportunities through targeted marketing strategies and co-creating curriculum that equip learners with the skills the industry needs right now.
‘’Most importantly, we made some fantastic new connections with people who share our passion for developing the next generation, and secured a number of pledges of support and commitment to our students in various capacities including offering guest lectures, work placements and curriculum reviews.
‘’We’re excited to build on these partnerships moving forward!’’

Myerscough College is also actively looking to recruit a lecturer in Landscape & Horticulture. In this role, you’ll deliver a mix of practical & classroom based teaching across a range of horticulture & landscape programmes.
