Myerscough and M-Sport partnership continues to flourish

University Centre Myerscough’s close relationship with M-Sport and their FIA World Rally Championship winning team goes from strength to strength.
Myerscough and M-Sport have long been at the forefront when it comes to improving the prospects of talented youngsters with aspirations of a career in motorsport.
For several years, Myerscough students worked with the Cumbrian squad as part of their FIA Junior World Rally Championship and MSA British Rally Championship teams – getting a practical insight into the detail at motorsport’s highest level.
This was halted during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, but has operated again since 2022, offering unique, sector leading enrichment opportunities students studying for degrees in Motorsport Competition Car Technology and Motorsport Management and Logistics.
This week marks the end of the M-Sport UK Academy Students three month summer placement based at the company’s HQ in Cockermouth, Cumbria.
The four students from Myerscough, studying both the Motorsport Competition Car Technology and Motorsport Management & Logistics degrees have impressed with their attitude to learning, attention to detail, and willingness to get involved across their wide range of projects and programmes.
First year students on the programme, Sam Patterson and Connor Dewhurst were exposed to the various technical departments of electrical, engines, hydraulics, sub assembly, transmissions, and workshop.
Moving forward onto year two of the programme, both students have chosen their top three departments to specialise in.
On her second year of the programme, Molly Pate spent time within her top three departments, tailored towards her interests and skills. Her three departments included engines, transmissions, and workshop. Molly was also given a role within M-Sport’s Rally2 BRC Team this year, working on the rear corner of both Max McRae and William Creighton's competition cars.
For the first year of the Management & Logistic placement, Myerscough student Megan was exposed to three management departments which allowed her to experience the day-to-day business operations. These departments included human resources, health & safety, and transportation.
The Academy students head back to Myerscough to restart their studies and apply the skills and practices they have learnt during the summer placement, before returning to M-Sport for the first half term week in October.
