A Myerscough College tutor has been praised for his work with the local police.

Jon Hoole

T-Level horticulture tutor Jon Hoole also serves as a police officer with the Lancashire Constabulary, and was on duty at the recent Radio 2 In The Park event at Moor Park in Preston.

During his shift, Jon was working with colleagues who had the difficult task of locating and identifying a missing person who was thought might be nearby.

Jon helped to identify a bike belonging to the missing person, and on further investigation and searches of bushes, the person was located, who was sadly deceased.

The discovery enabled the major event to continue to run smoothly, stopped the need for a wider missing person search, and prevented a member of the public potentially discovering the deceased person at a later time, in addition to giving the person’s family peace and closure.

In recognition of his work, Jon has been invited to attend a meeting where he will receive personal thanks from the force.

Chief Inspector Julie Rawsthorne of Preston police, said: ‘’Your tenacity in finding the bike and then further searching in the bushes, now mean the person’s family have been able to put them to rest and also prevented a member of the public having to find them, not to mention the search which would have taken place.

‘’I look forward to welcoming you to Preston Police Station so I can express my gratitude and thanks in person.’’

Susanna Brandon, Myerscough Curriculum Area Manager - Greenspace & Creative Studies, said: ‘’Jon was also involved in the policing at the time of the atrocity in Southport offering security and support to many frightened individuals living in and around the location of the tragedy.

‘’We appreciate his service and commitment to his students as a tutor and the wider community as a police officer, he really does go above and beyond to prepare young people to make a positive contribution to the world and is a wonderful role model.’’

Well done, Jon, we’re very proud of you!
