A University Centre Myerscough horticulture student has been recognised with a national award.
Cerys Eleanor was named winner of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture’s Pam Pointer Award for 2024.
24-year-old Cerys has just completed her BSc in Horticultural Science and Management, ending a long association with Myerscough that saw her progress from GCSE study, to a foundation certificate, a Level 3 diploma and foundation degree, before completing a full honours degree in the summer.
For her final year project she carried out a survey exploring barriers to employment and inclusivity within the horticultural industry.
The findings of her research shed light on this important area.
She was nominated for this award as it was felt her research is personally motivated by her own experiences and provides insights into the challenges faced by those with disabilities within horticulture.
Cerys received her award as part of a CIH conference entitled ‘Horticultural Solutions for the Planet’ at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew recently.
The Pam Pointer Award is presented for students of horticulture in recognition of outstanding achievement in academic and practical pursuits.
