A group of University Centre Myerscough golf degree students enjoyed a special afternoon with YouTube star, Rick Shiels.

Rick Shiels With Golf Students

Rick, a former Myerscough golf student between 2002 and 2004, has almost three million subscribers to his popular YouTube channel, as well as millions more across his social media accounts, and his Rick Shiels Golf Show podcasts.

The first year BA Golf Management and BSc Coaching & Performance Degree students were kindly invited by Rick and his team to spend the afternoon in his Manchester studio, discussing all things YouTube, the impact of social media in the golf industry, Tour Pro’s and celebrity collaborations, as well as a sneak preview of his legendary equipment room and H.I.T Golf studio.

The students all had a fantastic day and the opportunity to go behind the scenes was very much appreciated by all who took part.

Rick has continued to have a close relationship with Myerscough since rising to online superstardom.

In 2023, he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the golf sector, while in 2022, one of his videos went viral, when he returned to Myerscough and gave one lucky student £5,000 for winning a series of golf challenges.

He studied a National Diploma in Golf Studies here at Myerscough College for two years and, at 18 years old, decided that a job in golf was something that he wanted to pursue.

He began posting his coaching content online and, from humble beginnings, his YouTube career started to take off. Rick’s popularity grew and grew over the years, and he started to make a difference to the games of millions of golfers across the globe.

In 2019, Rick helped host the first ever YouTube Golf Day which raised over £15,000 for Prostate Cancer UK and only last year walked 150 miles prior to the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews with his golf clubs on his back, raising an astonishing £115,000 for the same charity.
