The winning entry in the Schools Design-a-Garden Competition sees our landscaping team bring to life a garden designed by a junior school pupil.

The competition is open to junior school pupils in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 from across the region. This year's competition received over 200 entries from lots of budding gardeners and the designs were judged by a team of professionals. The winner for 2024 was Sophia Hardman, aged 8, a pupil from Helmshore Primary School in Rossendale.

Sophia's winning design has been bought to life for the show under the direction of Myerscough College's horticulture and landscape apprentices, along with some community learners.

The award winning garden will be on display during the show and always receive a great deal of attention from the tens of thousands of visitors who attend every year.

This year the competition is kindly sponsored by Merseyrail.

Sophia said: ‘’It’s a magical garden full of flowers with a sweat pea arch. Follow the path through to the pergola to the pond with a waterfall and go up the steps to the raised seating area."

"It’s a garden to attract wildlife and to enjoy sitting and to enjoy nature."

The Southport Flower Show runs until Sunday.
