Thanks to the connections of Myerscough football tutors, students from both school leaver and degree level programmes have been afforded an opportunity to train with attacking midfielder Jacob Wright, and get a personal insight into what it takes to become a professional player, and experience how an elite level training is implemented, as you can see here.

20-year-old Jacob is a product of the Manchester City academy system, and made his debut for the club in last season's Champion’s League, coming on for superstar striker Erling Haaland, before making a loan move to Championship side Norwich City.

Jacob has now completed a permanent transfer to the Canaries, in a deal worth around £2.3m.

Myerscough tutors, Rob Henry and Richard Thomas, have been working with Jacob for some time through their football training company RTR Talent, and this has allowed them to extend this to involve Myerscough learners, with a number of further training sessions planned, ahead of Jacob reporting back to his new club for pre-season training.

Last week, Jacob took time out to hold a question and answer session with Myerscough’s football students, where they were able to gain further insight into the life of a pro.

Darren Ghouse is a Football Coaching & Performance degree student, and said: ‘’Myerscough has given me the opportunity to improve as a coach and as a person. My development as a coach has been helped through the unique opportunities I have experienced.

‘’Being able to work with Jacob Wright has massively improved my coaching skills because it has given me a greater insight into what it takes to work with someone who plays at an elite level.’’

High level teaching and coaching, plus such opportunities and extra enrichment activities given to Myerscough students, mean they are well equipped to move into their dream job within their chosen industry upon completion of their studies.

Darren adds: ‘’Visiting numerous football clubs such as Sporting Lisbon, Benfica, Manchester City, Burnley and Fleetwood have given me an insight into what excellence in coaching looks like. This has allowed me to look at my own coaching and improve many areas.

‘’The modules within the course have been incredibly helpful as they have taught me many different sides of coaching that are influential.''

‘’This includes insights into the mental side of football, the philosophical ideas of coaching, and analytics that take place day to day when scouting and reviewing players.’’
