Arbor Day UK – celebrating a vital global industry

Myerscough College has hosted a special day of celebration of all things trees, in the sixth ‘Arbor Day UK’.

The annual event is a huge celebration of the outdoor environment, those that work with trees (arborists), and recognition of a hugely important global industry.

The day featured a series of guest lectures by a range of arboriculture professionals to invited guests and greenspace learners from across Myerscough’s campuses, in addition to opportunities to network with various industry colleagues who were present.

The day also saw an official tree planting event at the college’s Bilsborrow campus to mark the occasion.

A number of invited VIP guests were invited to attend the event, including Miles Hogg, Mere Plantations; Sarah Shorley, Woodland Dwellings and Tree Plotter; Richard Hunter, Confor; Helen Bingley, High Sheriff of Lancashire, Danny Gabbott, Senior manager at Network Rail; Lucy Cavendish, The Holker Group; Emma Gilmartin; Paul Nolan, Mersey Forest; Martin Ainscough, Deputy Lieutenant of Manchester; Serena Clifford, Forestry Commission; Paul JP Marriott; Callum Throw, Arb Innovators; Susie Grainger, Woodland Creation Officer – Lakes; Thomas Bowring, GMX; Yvonne Ball, CLA Lancashire Branch Committee; Stephen Lowe, Network Rail; and Dr Robert Hawkins The Institute of Chartered Foresters.
