A Myerscough animal studies tutor is attempting a famous gruelling fell challenge to raise money for a local hospice.

Emma And Kirsty

The Bob Graham Round is a fell running challenge in the Lake District. It is named after Bob Graham, a Keswick guest-house owner, who in June 1932 broke the Lakeland Fell record by traversing 42 fells within a 24-hour period.

Traversing the 42 fells, starting and finishing at Keswick Moot Hall, involves 66 miles (106 km) with 26,900 feet (8,200 m) of ascent.

Later this month, Emma Blundell will attempt the challenge, to raise money for St Catherine’s Hospice in Preston.

St Catherine’s has been chosen as it where colleague and friend, Kirsty Aspinall, who passed away in December, was cared for.

Emma said: ‘’I was able to witness first hand the incredible support that they provide not only for the patients, but also their family and friends. I wanted to do something to raise money for St. Cath's to continue their incredible work.

‘’Traditionally the challenge has been to complete the round in under 24 hours. As a bit of a plodder I'm not sure I'll manage the under 24 hours bit, but just completing the round will be enough of an accomplishment in my book and I hope you all agree!

‘’My only other goal is spend time on the fells doing something I love with some of my best friends. The attempt will be made sometime around the end of May/beginning of June but will be dictated by the weather.’’
