Myerscough launch new sportsturf apprenticeship programme

Myerscough College can announce a new, sector leading sportsturf apprenticeship programme is being launched this summer.

The recently approved Level 3 Advanced Sportsturf Technician programme will begin delivery in the coming weeks, with applications now encouraged from those within the industry looking to build on their Level 2 qualifications. 

This innovative program aims to equip aspiring sportsturf technicians with the skills and knowledge required to excel in the field.

With a focus on practical training and industry expertise, this apprenticeship promises to help shape the next generation of professionals in sports turf management.

‘Empowering the next generation’

The Level 3 Advanced Sportsturf Technician apprenticeship programme offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about sportsturf management to receive hands-on training and comprehensive education.

Apprentices will gain practical experience in areas such as pitch construction, surface renovations, irrigation, surface maintenance, and control of pests and diseases. Under the guidance of industry experienced professionals, they will develop a deep understanding of the techniques and strategies necessary to create and maintain high-quality sports surfaces across a range or disciplines such as golf, football, rugby and horse racing. 

‘Excellence in sportsturf management’

Myerscough College's apprenticeship programme sets a new standard for excellence in aspiring sports turf managers. With a curriculum designed in consultation with industry leaders, apprentices will learn cutting-edge techniques and gain insights into the latest advancements in the field.

From analysing soil composition to implementing effective irrigation systems, the program covers all aspects of sports turf management, ensuring that apprentices graduate with the skills necessary to deliver exceptional playing surfaces.

Lee Price, Employer Services Manager at Myerscough College said: ‘’This new apprenticeship finally gives Level 2 learners, particularly within the Football industry the chance to progress to an advanced level of study and we are really looking forward to welcoming our first batch of learners onto this new apprenticeship standard.
‘’Our blended delivery involving a network of industry competent tutors means we can now offer this new programme across all areas of England.’’

The Level 3 Advanced Sportsturf Technician apprenticeship programme at Myerscough College is paving the way for the future of sports turf management, nurturing highly skilled professionals who will elevate the quality of sports surfaces across the range of sporting disciplines. 

Graduates will have the opportunity to progress onto higher education programmes such as our FdSc in Sportsturf Management provision. For those moving into golf management there is also the option of the Level 5 Golf Course Manager Apprenticeship Standard.
