It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear colleague, Kirsty Aspinall, after a prolonged period of illness.

She passed away just a few days before her 50th birthday.

A much-loved member of our Myerscough community for more than 20 years, she was initially appointed as a lecturer, and later to the role of Assistant Head of HE Animal Studies in 2010, where she was a proud ambassador of Myerscough by supporting colleagues, students, and animals within her care.

Kirsty studied at Aberystwyth University, before achieving a Masters degree in Animal Production from the University of Aberdeen, and worked as a Parasitology and Breeding Consultant before joining Myerscough in 2003.

Kirsty soon established herself the backbone of our Animal Studies team, having taught thousands of students during her time with us. She loved being a part of Myerscough, where she had a genuine passion for animals, and loved working with them, while encouraging, supporting and inspiring both staff and students to be the very best they could be.

Those who met her, worked with her, or who were taught by her will always be grateful and remember what a shining light she was.

Away from Myerscough, Kirsty enjoyed ballroom dancing, and was also a passionate charity fundraiser, even joining an event just a few weeks before her passing, as well as selflessly undertaking voluntary work with local organisations, including a local Parkrun.

Kirsty will be remembered by us all as a very kind, compassionate and gentle soul who gave her best to everything she did, with an incredible outlook on life, and who still found immense joy, strength and positivity even in the darkest of times.

She was equally liked and highly respected by everyone who met her and will be so badly missed by this Myerscough community.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends, including her children, Jonathan and Edie, at this very difficult time.

There will be a celebration of Kirsty’s life, with a funeral service at St James' Church, Leyland on Monday 18th December 2023 at 11am (Slater Lane, Leyland, PR26 7SH).

There is also a tribute page where anyone who knew Kirsty can leave their memories, and also if they wish, donate Macmillan Cancer Support, Rosemere Cancer Foundation and St Catherine's Hospice Care.
