Our apprenticeships in Cumbria
We recognise the importance of the agriculture and arboriculture sectors to the county, and how important it is that the next generation have the best possible opportunity to obtain high level qualifications locally.
Cumbrian learners can apply for a range of study programmes in the land-based, sports, science and engineering sector in the usual way, for study at our Preston centre, with a range of residential options available.
In addition to full time school leaver programmes, Myerscough also successfully delivers agriculture and arboriculture apprenticeships in Cumbria, through a dynamic delivery model with a hands on approach to training the next generation of agricultural professionals.
Delivered through the General Farm Worker & Livestock Unit Technician apprenticeship standards, apprentices are brought together every two weeks at delivery sites across Cumbria & Northumberland.
The sites that are currently used include Penrith Auction, Carlisle Auction and Hexham Auction Marts to provide apprentices with diverse learning opportunities and the chance to engage with the agricultural sector. Apprentices are also visited by a work based tutor every 8-10 weeks for assessment.
September 2024 sees the introduction of the Level 4 Assistant Farm Manager apprenticeship for those in the sector that operate and support the management of an agriculture business.
With support from the Forestry Commission, Myerscough will also offer the Level 3 Forest Craftsperson (from September 2024), in addition to a Level 4 Arboriculturist and the new Level 6 Professional Arboriculturist programme, the latter being the first in the country.
