It is ideal for both staff and managers to ensure they are working from the latest scientific and government guidance.

COVID-19 is a new infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. It was not known until December 2019, following an outbreak in Wuhan, China.

The World Health Organisation declared the outbreak of COVID-19 a pandemic on 11 March 2020, meaning that the virus had spread worldwide.

The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 imposes a duty on employers to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all employees and anyone affected by their work, so far as is reasonably practicable. COVID-19 presents a risk to all employees and those with whom their employees have contact with. Therefore, a risk assessment should be completed by the employer to identify the risks and implement control measures to eliminate or significantly reduced those risks in order to comply with this legislation.
