About the course


This course seeks to inspire the most reluctant gardener to have a go! Covering basic horticultural techniques, such as pruning, propagation and maintenance, this course provides participants with the confidence to step into the garden with confidence to demonstrate their new skills.

What are the entry requirements?

Enthusiasm – this course is suitable for those without any gardening experience.

How long is the course?

One day

What will the course involve?

Demonstration and practice of basic horticultural skills – using common horticultural tools safely to practice garden maintenance. You will learn generic skills such as pruning different types of plants, successful propagation appropriate to the season and how to maintain a border.

How long will I be learning?

Although this course only lasts for one day, this is only the start and you’ll carry on learning as you put your new skills into practice.

What equipment will I need?

All equipment is provided, but you will need to wear sensible footwear and outdoor clothing.

How will I know if I am making progress?

Demonstration of new skills.

What course work will I be expected to complete?

Practical skills during the course.

What can I expect to learn from this course?

A range of basic horticultural skills.
