Learn to Groom Your Own Dog - Liverpool

About the course

Introduction: This introductory level course is designed to give you the skills to groom your own dog. Bring your own dog and learn how to create one specific style and gain the skills you need to groom your own dog’s coat type. It is also ideal as a taster for those wanting to explore a career in dog grooming.

What are the entry requirements? None, an interest in dog grooming.

How long is the course? 1 day – 9am-4pm

What will the course involve?

· Theory aspects:

o Reasons for Grooming

o Common parasites

· Practical aspects:

o Safe Dog Handling, lifting and restraining

o Care, use and maintenance of electric and non-electric grooming equipment

o Bathing and drying techniques

o Basic clipping and scissoring techniques

o Nail trimming and foot care

How long will I be learning? 1 day

What equipment will I need?

All tools and equipment will be provided for use on the day.

Candidates will be provided with an apron but should wear closed-toe non-slip footwear.

How will I know if I am making progress?

Candidates will gain the satisfactory background knowledge and practical experience to satisfy the needs of grooming their dog at home.

What course work will I be expected to complete? N/A

What can I expect to learn from this course?

To groom your own dog, in a specific style, relevant to breed.

This course does not lead to a formal qualification but can be supported by a Myerscough College attendance and completion certificate if required to commence and support further training.

Candidates will be advised of appropriate tools and equipment for future grooming which can be purchased online from: http://www.groomers-online.com/

Candidates will have received an introduction to dog grooming which would aid their progression into further dog grooming programmes.
