City & Guilds NPTC Level 3 Award in Aerial Tree Pruning (Formerly CS40)

About the course

Unit 307 Carry Out Aerial Pruning of a Tree

This course covers aerial pruning operations and looks at crown thinning, crown pruning, crown reduction and pollarding. You will also need prior knowledge and be able to identify slow growing and fast growing species and how this impacts on pruning. Different pruning equipment will be looked at as well as the reasons for target pruning and management techniques.

Unit 203 (CS 31)

Unit 206 (CS 38 Basic Climbing)

Unit 306 (CS38 Aerial Rescue)

Unit 308 (CS 39)

Compulsory equipment required for "Use of Chainsaw" courses

Helmet (EN 12492) with chin strap, ear defenders and mesh visor ( complying with EN1731) (not exceeding 3 years old)

Chainsaw protective gloves* complying with EN 381-7

Chainsaw Trousers* –Type C to include Tree climbing Work ( Chaps are not acceptable)

Chainsaw Boots* complying with EN345-2 (spats are not acceptable)

* These items should carry the CE chainsaw logo

Personal First Aid Kit (containing a large wound dressing)

Whistle

Suitable outdoor clothing including waterproofs, you should be prepared for all weather conditions.

Felling sites maybe up to 1 hours’ drive from the main college and therefore to access these you must have your own transport (buses are not suitable)

Climbing equipment and climbing chainsaws are available for use. If you would like to use your own climbing equipment, it will be at the discretion of the Tutor and must have all the current LOLER certificates.

Assessment

Assessments will be arranged to take place after training has been completed (usually the following week).

You will be given the date and time during the training

The fees include NPTC administration, registration and assessment charges. Any re-tests are not included

**It is important that you have a higher than average level of fitness and advisable that you have first aid training before undertaking this course.**
